The countdown to Canada’s 150th birthday is on! Our beautiful country has changed a lot since 1867, including the way we advertise. We took a trip down Google’s memory lane to find some of Canada’s first advertisements – and what we found indicates to us Canadians have a long history of creative ways to spread the word. From Sir John Macdonald acting as the brand ambassador for Molson Ale to giving away 160 acres of land in Western Canada as an immigration tactic.
Our young country holds a lot of deep rooted history and it’s difficult to explain it all in words – so why not use signs? Curbex partnered with Town of Georgina to do just that – create 15 TadPole signs to visually represent the 15 decades of the municipality’s heritage and culture.
Working with the Town of Georgina on this campaign was inspiring. We got to look back on the heritage of a town where we serve many local and national businesses and we’re honoured to be a part of its growing community.
“The 150th anniversary of Confederation presents communities across the nation with a unique opportunity to create and showcase the evolution of our great country, bring Canadians together and enable conversations about our collective national identity, our diversity, and what binds us together, says Winter Mitchell, Recreation Programmer at Town of Georgina. Winter adds, “The Town of Georgina has had tremendous support from local businesses, without this support, events like Canada Day 150 would not be possible. We thank Curbex Media for their contribution to our event, their product will certainly play a key role in allowing us to celebrate the past 150 years in Georgina by highlighting significant milestones that have taken place in our great community.”
If you want to check out the signs in person and celebrate in true patriotic style, head over to Georgina’s Recreation Outdoor Campus (The ROC) on Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Enjoy live entertainment, great food, and fun activities for all ages to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday!
Georgina isn’t the only place with big plans for Canada Day this year. Many of our clients are jumping on board to celebrate our country’s heritage in their own unique ways. Take a glimpse at some of the other amazing campaigns we had the chance to create.
That’s a wrap (pun intended)! As a bunch of proud Canadians, we decided to show off our patriotism by wrapping our building with the official Canada 150 logo. We are truly proud to be a Canadian company. Cheers to another 150 years.
