Bylaw Compliant Curbex Mini B
City Bylaws

Defined as “a law which is made by a local authority and which applies only in their area”, city bylaws exist to ensure safety and consistency throughout a city. As a business or franchise owner, you are well aware of city bylaws that govern and regulate certain aspects of your business operations. Whether you have gone through the process of setting up your small business, or perhaps renovating your current franchise location, bylaws and permits are something that you are familiar with!

What you might not know is that there are also city bylaws that regulate the use of advertising and, more specifically, mobile or portable signage. Location, duration, and even colour are some of the elements regulated within a sign bylaw. The words bylaws, regulations, and restrictions usually give off a negative connotation for business owners, but they don’t have to!

By understanding what the rules are, there is a lot to be gained! You don’t need to feel limited in your marketing strategy. Instead, you are able to leverage this information and structure your marketing strategy so that all advertising runs smoothly throughout the year. Perhaps your city allows for mobile signage 4 months of the year, but you have 5 promotions planned. Not a problem! Flags, Banners, A-Frames and TadPoles might all be options that you can look at for the 5th month of advertising. Click here to see our suite of retail products!

This sounds like a lot of work for me to add to the preparation of my marketing plan.

Curbex takes great pride in our understanding of the city bylaws in every city that we service – coast to coast, so you don’t have to research a thing! Curbex Account Managers are well-versed in all city bylaws. We have done the research, so you don’t have to!

Looking for signage throughout the year, but not sure where to start?

Not a problem! Let our Account Managers lay this out for you. Let them know your required months for advertising and they will help you create a plan that works with any bylaws in your area. They will also provide you with retail and custom options to fill any empty months in your yearly plan.

But permits and bylaws mean more paperwork!

Depending on the bylaws in your city, there may be a permit application process that includes paperwork, drawings, and maps showing the location of the sign. Curbex’s Permit Department will take care of all of this for you – leaving you more time to focus on your business and your clients. Our well-established Permit Department has developed great relationships with city offices – fully understanding the requirements of each permit application. What’s even better – this administration work is done at no extra charge to you!

Power in Repetition

There’s something to be said about repetition in advertising. Whether it’s the same ad in several different places, or several slightly different ads at the same location. Using repetition is a proven advertising tactic for getting your message to your consumer.

Large brands and franchise locations across Canada work with Curbex’s Campaign Team on a regular basis to see this advertising technique come to fruition. From Tim Horton’s Smile Cookies, to The Wine Shop’s summer wine “bucket list”, to McDonald’s Bagel Sandwiches. Pizza Pizza, Mr Lube, Dulux Paint, Harvey’s, Party City and H&R Block are just some of the other brands collaborating with our campaign team. Every location seamlessly receiving signage on the same day. Locations in all different provinces? This seems like no small feat but for Curbex, this is all in a days work!

But I’m a Small Business Owner.

You don’t need to be part of a franchise or a large corporate company to use this advertising technique! First of all, do you have a brand, message or promotion? Second of all, do you want people to know about this brand, message or promotion? Perfect! You have what you need to get started.

What Options Do I Have?

Curbex Account Managers can take a look at your location and come up with several different options. We can combine both rental and retail products with your branding to create a tasteful display of advertising. From the Mini B, to flags, to window graphics and in-store solutions.

Want to spread your message to other locations as well?

No problem! Curbex’s off-site ad spaces give you the opportunity to continue the repetition of your branding in surrounding areas. Let your Account Manager know your target area. There are solutions around every corner!

Curbex Launches Sign Installer App to Streamline Installation Process

We like to stay ahead of the curve, not only with our sign process but also with technology. Behind the scenes, our amazing IT team is continuously working hard to develop new software and applications to better our internal teams and provide more efficient services to our clients. Which brings us to our newest release, the Curbex Installer App. This application runs through Apple iOS which now all our drivers and installer have access to via brand new Apple iPhones.

Why is this release so important to us? Here are the top reasons why this app sets Curbex apart:

1. All Campaigns are Captured Digitally

The Curbex Installer App provides us with remote access to our Corporate Management Platform (which holds important information of all of our client campaigns) and allows us to digitally track our campaign assets nationwide.

2. Signs are Always Installed in the Right Place

We’ve incorporated geofencing technology to ensure our sign installers never place the sign in the wrong spot. Geofencing is a software that allows us to use real-time GPS coordinates of all signs being installed.

3. Virtual Photo Access

By combining the geofencing with photo capturing of all sign installations, our staff and clients now have real-time virtual photo access to all installation and sign pickups to ensure all signs are in the right place without having to physically visit the advertising location.

4. Barcode Accuracy

Every single sign face we produce is labeled with a barcode to ensure 100% product placement accuracy. When one of our sign installers scan the barcode they will see a picture of the sign that is currently on location along with a proof of the sign that is to be installed as its replacement.

5. Routing to Increase Timeliness

The Curbex Installer App is fully optimized to increase the effectiveness of sign installations for our drivers. For example, if you have an advertising campaign with multiple sign dropoff/installation locations, our drivers will have have the full list of locations with best routes available directly through the application.

Features in the Making

Our amazing IT team is currently working to improve the effectiveness of this application by providing all clients with automatic emails when signs are installed. These emails will include the exact location along with a photo of newly installed campaigns. The future of the Installer App also calls for augmented reality! You’ll have to stay tuned to learn more about that one. 🙂

We are excited about this application as we know it will help our staff streamline our internal process as well as provide clients with real-time information of the status of their advertising campaigns.

The countdown to Canada’s 150th birthday is on! Our beautiful country has changed a lot since 1867, including the way we advertise. We took a trip down Google’s memory lane to find some of Canada’s first advertisements – and what we found indicates to us Canadians have a long history of creative ways to spread the word. From Sir John Macdonald acting as the brand ambassador for Molson Ale to giving away 160 acres of land in Western Canada as an immigration tactic.

_____ _____

Our young country holds a lot of deep rooted history and it’s difficult to explain it all in words – so why not use signs? Curbex partnered with Town of Georgina to do just that – create 15 TadPole signs to visually represent the 15 decades of the municipality’s heritage and culture. Continue Reading ->

Two members of the Curbex team made time in their day to volunteer for the annual McDonald’s McHappy Day. Erin and Rebecca are account managers here at Curbex and normally spend their days answering hundreds of call and emails from their clients. On Wednesday however, they spent their morning doing a different kind of work: serving #McHappyDay customers at the Richmond Hill McDonald’s location!

Curbex Volunteers at McHappy Day

Curbex in the Community:

Says Rebecca: “It was so busy! We had a great supervisor who made it look so easy, but man is it ever busy in there!” The annual fundraising event is in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities® and is in it’s 40th year this year. The fundraising event is original to Canada and has grown so popular that it is now held in 18 countries around the world. Ronald McDonald House Charities® assist 30,000 families across Canada every year. If you’d like to learn more about McHappy Day, you can visit the official page here.

In addition to volunteering their time, Erin and Rebecca brought along a donation of one of Curbex’s retail products, the Downtowner, to help advertise the event on-site. This isn’t the only time Curbex has given back to the community; To Learn more about Curbex volunteering and donations, click here.

Located in the beautiful city of Guelph, this auto shop shop offers all the services a car owner might need. We love the use of the Mini B to advertise a much-needed winter service: tire swapping! Many people wait till the last minute to switch their tires, so this is a great way to catch the attention of drivers on their way to work.

Other great uses of the Mini B for auto shops would be to promote short-term sales, seasonal services like tire swapping or undercoating, or even a customer appreciation message. Car dealerships also love printed mobile signage because it allows them to showcase full colour high resolution images of their vehicles. You can check out all of our printed signage here.
